Attempt at sabotage

(Malaysian Mirror) – Liow Tiong Lai has been accused of hijacking Ong Tee Keat’s proposal for fresh elections in an attempt to derail the Greater Unity Plan and embarrass MCA and the president by asking the prime minister and his deputy to intervene.

MCA NGO Liaison Bureau chief Ti Lian Ker said Ong was in fact the person to have first floated the idea of a fresh elections that is in keeping with the party constitution.

“It is such a mockery that Liow’s group is now harping on a fresh polls as if it’s their brainchild, said Ti, who pointed out that vice president Liow and his faction had rejected the fresh election plan at the Oct 15 central committee meeting.

Stomping over grassroots’ wish

Tracing recent events, Ti said Ong had initially believed that the CC members who had sworn to stand by him would vacate their CC seats en bloc through their resignation in order to pave the way for fresh polls in accordance with the provisions of the constitution.

When some of the CC members rebelled against Ong, he came up with the Greater Unity Plan as a workaround solution, said Ti, adding that it won the backing of Dr Chua Soi Lek.

The grassroots had also agreed that the unity plan would pave the way for fresh elections in six months after the dust has settled down.

But in an about-face, Liow rejected the unity plan and ignored grassroots sentiments by demanding  an immediate election, said Ti here on Monday.

Ti said Ong was open to having party elections in March if the new electoral system involving the division delegates was ready.

All members should show maturity in working together to settle problems within the party, he added.
