JPJ at its Best

Often we have heard stories about how one can pass a driving test by just passing a few bucks. To be precise, the going rate is now RM500 for the driving license to be all yours.

As my daughter was about to take her driving test, many had advised me to just settle the money and the job would be done. Easy, no hassle, no discussions, no worries.

My daughter, however, refused to pay the bribe as she was pretty confident with her capability.

Well, she failed. But what worries me was the verbal abuse she endured from the JPJ instructor. Yelling at her and telling her repeatedly how stupid she was.

In truth, she was shaken and found it extremely hard to concentrate. She was just not prepared for this part of the package. Arrogance and rudeness conquered.

It is sad however, not because she had failed the test but at what level corruption, bribery and greed have taken us. Was she verbally abused because she did not hand over the bucks? Was she treated in this manner because she did not condone corruption?

Diabetes, Cancer, Hypertension, AIDS are among the most common diseases talked about these days. Indeed. But one must acknowledge the corruption in this country is spreading faster than we can even imagine and if it can reach this innocent 17 year old girl, all I have to say is God save this country!
