The TERMS OF REFERENCE for Sabah’s ‘proposed’ coal fire power plant – a book which claims to be detailed yet omits the obvious issues which might contradict its suitability/viability. The Environmental Impact Assessment is already out and not a whisper to the people here, or even a general summary.

Funny how just a few months back this whole thing was under wraps and we were asked not to fuss over a mere proposal. Once again with no input from its people, how easily our authorities can fast-track projects ‘for the people’ when it so openly reeks of irregularities, corruption and evil.  

Ask the environmentalists, then ask Sabahans what our world-renowned eco-system and wildlife mean to us (and to the world) and how this whole sham contravenes logic, the needs of the people and the worst part, promises by people who we entrust to take care of us – our politicians. 

Lahad Datu Energy Sdn. Bhd. (a low, low-coverup for TNB), and the consultants at UKM, passed this document as ‘comprehensive’ when it blatantly avoids mentioning the critical environmental issues, and real facts behind why Sabah continues to have energy problems, and will continue to have to ‘sacrifice’ for progress … perhaps for Malaysia’s progress but definitely not for its own, if we let them build this plant. 

Why petrol, gas, hydro (power) resources (all of which are available in East Malaysia) are being exploited, used and sold elsewhere while we, in Sabah, are forced to opt for coal – and having to buy it at that. Funny how the whole of Malaysia is talking about going GREEN when Sabah is asked to keep mum and accept the leftovers.  

There is ‘no choice’ for us they say. Well let’s see what the rest of the world has to say about this.
