Liow: 13 CC members ready to quit to force fresh elections

(Free Malaysia Today) – MAINTAINING their defiance against the top leadership, 13 MCA Central Committee (CC) members aligned to vice-president Liow Tiong Lai are threatening to quit their posts to force fresh polls within 60 days.

Liow said the 13 had signed resignation letters and given their approval for the lettersto be submitted to the party at the right time.

However, there is a hitch: fresh polls can be held only if one third of the CC quits. This means Liow has to get seven more members of the powerful committee to resign, a daunting task given the powerful hold that party president Ong Tee Keat and his deputy, Chua Soi Lek, have on the CC.

At a special briefing this morning, about 1,600 of Liow’s supporters approved a resolution urging the party leadership to hold fresh elections to resolve the ongoing party crisis.

The delegates attributed the prolonged crisis to the party leadership’s failure to implement the resolutions of the extraordinary general meeting of last Oct 10.

Delegates at that meeting had passed resolutions rejecting Tee Keat as party president and Soi Lek as his deputy.
