MCA crisis talks fail, AGM may be put off

(Free Malaysia Today) – MCA is likely to call off its annual general meeting this weekend as Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s formula to resolve the party’s  worst ever crisis faces a major hurdle.

Party president Ong Tee Keat is believed to be pushing for the AGM scheduled for Dec 5 to be postponed  to a later date.

Ong fears the Youth and Wanita delegates conference precedingthe  AGM would be used as a platform to attack the fragile pact between him and his deputy Dr Chua Soi Lek, according MCA  sources.

The sources said that Ong’s camp feared the two wings were planning to adopt a resolution to demand the the party president and his deputy step down, in line with the resolutions passed at the Extraordinary General Meeting last month.

Ong has called for an emergency Central Committee meeting this Wednesday to push for the AGM to be postponed as little progress has been made on  the Umno-brokered formula to solve the crisis.

The sources described last night’s two-hour talks between the warring factions in MCA  at  the home of Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin in Bukit Damansara as a  “failure.”

Muhyiddin, who gave himself a week to resolve the MCA crisis after Najib stepped in with his formula, was unable to persuade the two camps  to agree on how and when fresh elections should be held, the sources said.
