The cream does not always rise to the top – in BN, it is only crud!

The present system of politics practiced by ALL members of BN, ie., UMNO, MCA, MIC, Gerakan, and others does not allow smart, fair, and capable politicians to rise to the top. Only those who are connected and have access to finances plundered from ordinary Malaysians somehow rise to positions of importance in present day Malaysia.

I remember when I was serving in the Football Association of Penang (FAP). There was a member of FAP’s Council who was there by virtue of representing one of the local club affiliates of FAP (the FAP constitution provides for a representative from each Div 1 club participating in FAP’s local league to sit on the Council). That guy was an IDIOT!

I was new to FAP then and I remember asking the then Secretary how could someone like him represent a club and sit on the highest body of FAP tasked with running state football? Each time this idiot opened his mouth, nothing intelligent came forth. Even children of my friends made more sense to me than this idiot when speaking!

His reply shocked me. The then secretary told me that this idiot is the president of the club and he was elected president because he could provide the necessary finance for the club to function and survive.

It shocked me because this presented me with a conflict. In my naive mind, a person able to rise to such a position must be a somewhat successful professional or businessman I thought, but yet he displayed such idiocy. So I asked the then FAP Secretary again, what does he do? His reply knocked me off my feet!!!

“He is a PEON in KOMTAR somewhere, don’t know which agency or department but he is head of an UMNO branch somewhere hence his ability to find the necessary finances for the club he represents!” – was the reply.

Where am I going with the above recollection you may ask?

The point I’m trying to make here is that the present system of politics practiced by ALL members of BN, ie., UMNO, MCA, MIC, Gerakan, and others does not allow smart, fair, and capable politicians to rise to the top. Anyway you look at it, the system is fucked!

I believe this is symptomatic of a bigger problem at large which allows incompetent politicians to rise to the top of the political hierarchy of our ruling elites. Either you can shout racist slogans well or you can bodek yourself close to the thieves and your career path is mapped out for you, never mind that you are an idiot!

Is it any wonder if we have incompetent idiots within our ruling elites of the cabinet?
