PR in a hurry, not a rush

(Free Malaysia Today) – Opposition leaders expect this Saturday’s Pakatan Rakyat (PR) national convention to represent a leap forward in strengthening the three-party alliance.

It would show the general public that the parties had overcome their major differences, Datuk Salehuddin Hashim (picture), Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s Secretary-General, told FMT in an interview.

“We have learned how to sit down and sort out our differences,” he said.

He added, however, that there was no real rush to achieve the target of a permanent coalition.

“PR is in a hurry but not to the point of taking shortcuts and at the expense of certain realities,” he said.

Salehuddin cautioned against expecting the convention to solve all outstanding problems, but said the event would be part of  “a natural progression towards the ultimate multi-racial party that this country deserves.”

However, he does expect the ideas generated during the talks to be passed down to the grassroots. “It is only when all levels understand where we agree and disagree and how important it is to work together will we be able to have a fixed coalition.”

He hopes the delegates from across the nation will see the big picture of where PR is and where it is heading and be inspired to form coalitions at the divisional level.
