Kit Siang seeks whole truth about jet scandal

(Free Malaysia Today) – DAP leader Lim Kit Siang (picture) wants “no ifs and buts”  but a full statement from the Prime Minister or the Defence Minister about  the missing jet engine scandal.

He says the loss of two Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) jet engines “exposes high-level thievery, government topsy-turvydom and sheer lack of professionalism in defence, police and the Attorney-General’s Chambers, casting a long shadow” on Najib Abdul Razak’s government transformation programme.

Najib was the Defence Minister when the theft took place and this has created “a frightening picture of a government of thieves,” Lim says in his latest blog posting.

Lim says many questions cry out for answers since the engines were not unobtrusive objects “that could be easily squirreled away.”

More questions were raised by differing explanatory statements from Najib, Defence Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Armed Forces Chief Gen Azizan Ariffin and the police, he  said.

Najib yesterday made the assurance that action would be taken against those responsible for the loss of the engines, saying: “Let us investigate. Whoever is in the wrong will be held responsible.”

“Why is the Prime Minister still talking in the future tense, when the action for the missing RMAF jet engines took place in May last year, and the RMAF had lodged a report with the police on Aug 4 last year?” Lim asked.

He said Azizan Ariffin stated last Friday that the theft might just be the “tip of the iceberg” of the scandal as initial investigations showed that other equipment might have gone missing as far back as 2007.
