Church burnings a trap, warns PAS

(Free Malaysia Today) – PAS vice president Datuk Mahfuz Omar does not believe that the attack on the  Metro Tabernacle Church in Desa Melawati, was by muslims.

“Islam prohibits the destruction of places of worship of muslims and non muslims.  I don’t believe such attacks are by true believers of Islam. This is a political act by by certain parties who want to benefit from the issue, “ he told FMT today.

He warned that such acts were a trap and would spiral, and hinted that such purported “racial unrest” would be reason enough for the authorities to invoke the draconian curfew law which was used to clamp down racial riots in May 13 1969.

IGP Musa Hassan warned demonstrators yesterday not to hold assemblies, saying no permits had been issued but it obviously has had little effect going by calls from Muslim NGOs and social network Facebook groups who are hell bent on urging muslims to congregate at the several locations in the country – National Mosque in Kuala Lumpur and the Masjid Shah Alam, Dataran Sungai Petani and Pantai Batu Buruk (Kuala Terengganu) today after noon prayers.

Mahfuz, has urged the public to remain calm and not succumb to any form of instigations.
