What will YOU do?

When a country’s political scene turn from bad to worse, we have only 3 choices.
1)      Hide and HOPEFULLY survive the ordeal.
2)      Get killed and die without knowing why and what happened, because you have never got involved in anything.
3)      Fight, and if you succeed, it’ll be a better place. Even if you die, you die with a reason, and die knowing you have done
your part.

As a common civilian, we hope to be living in a place where we feel secure, where the society and the government is stable, with a stable
job and income, with less worries about money, and the safety of themselves, their loved ones and their properties.

But when the political situation does not permit that, causing people to struggle through life, with fear for safety, and worries of
food, clothing, expenses, etc, that makes it a reason for some brave people to seek reform, while some others would just chicken out and suffer in silence, making complaints secretly, hoping someone or something’s gonna change.

As we know here in Malaysia (Lets not say whether there’s corruption or whatever first, and put this in a very layman
citizen’s view)…
–          We see projects which were built at a price that’s way higher than what it would logically cost.
–          We see projects being built half way, and left abandoned.
–          We see court cases being sentenced with absurd “evidence”.
–          We see rising crime rates.
–          We see issues which are not addressed, even after it is brought up.
–          We see action taken towards the opposite of the people’s needs.
–          We see suppression of views, and anything that is against the power in hand.
–          We see arrests of people who try to raise up a concern.
–          We see witnesses being treated and prosecuted as a suspect.
–          We see beating and torturing of people at the hands of the authorities.
–          We see denial, even after all these were seen.

Besides that, we also see
–          People in power living lavishly while more and more common people suffer.
–          We see leaders claiming of tough times ahead yet money is being used irrationally.
–          We see prices of goods increase, both imports and exports, but government still claims they are making a loss.
–          We see that we export goods, but yet we are buying our own goods at import prices.
–          We see our leaders giving excuses not to progress.

That constitutes the rejection power, where we began to feel loathsome towards what they do. And thus, a need to reform.

If the situation doesn’t get better, instead when a country’s political scene turn from bad to worse, you have only 3 choices.
1)      Hide and HOPEFULLY survive the ordeal.
2)      Get killed and die without knowing why and what happened, because you have never got involved in anything.
3)      Fight, and if you succeed, it’ll be a better place. Even if you die, you die with a reason, and die knowing you have done
your part.

So what would your choice be? Hide? And probably die “Innocently” without contributing to the country?

As a citizen of our country, we have to do something, no matter how weak we may be. There must be something we can do. And little by
little, our stamina will build up, and the forces will then be great.

Some of us would stand up, and demand change … Some would just hide behind the scenes and write … Some, only dare to talk in front of their families for fear of being arrested …

For those that have stood up, we should recognize their sacrifices. And if we too wish for change, we should SHOW our support to them and not just “claim” to support them but fall back when we were challenged.

Everything starts small. And if we don’t take the 1st step, there is never gonna be a second one.

The tiniest thing we could do is to REGISTER AS A VOTER. And for those who have registered, INVITE/ENCOURAGE OTHERS (who qualify) to register.

Next step is to educate them on the need to vote. And the need to reform. For some people are too fed up that they rather stay at home and waste that vote. Some are just plain lazy. So their minds need to be straightened. While to some, they have lost all hope and rather leave the country for a better place.

Start with your close contacts. During your breakfast, tea, lunch or sports games, bring the topic up. Or do it like the advertisement “You Cut already?” where you can ask, “You register already or not?”

I have resorted to writing, as well as telling people around me the need to vote, the need for reformation. And my basis is …
“Not that I hate the current leaders. It is the things that they do which they should not, and the things that they don’t do, which they
should have; that made me give up my support towards them.”

Now that’s a strong rejection power, enough to make most people I talk to agree with me.

But problem comes when they asked, “What did the other party do? You see … blah, blah, blah…”  And a whole list of things come out. Including how some members behave just like the people in power, or how some of them show their attitude, and how things didn’t get done etc. And it hits the hardest when they say, “You fight for them, and if you got arrested, are they going to come to rescue you?” I was silent.

I don’t have enough pulling power.

But I told them, “Well if we don’t vote for change, the situation now will not get better, and there’ll never be a change for better
days. Thus, it has to change somehow, to start the chain reaction. Further more, I am not fighting for any party. I am fighting for change, for justice, for freedom. Fighting to win back our stability and our safety”.

Whist we are all working hard towards change, justice and freedom, I do hope that the parties involved, and its leadership, would also
stand with us and fare through this political storm. Recognize our contributions and deliver the better days to all people as promised.

United we shall stand, strong will be our stance.
