Raja Petra’s son rushed to hospital over razor blade incident

(The Star) – Raja Azman, the jailed son of fugitive Malaysia Today editor Raja Petra Raja Kamarudin, has been hospitalised after he is believed to have swallowed a razor blade.

It is also learnt that the 34-year-old had slashed his wrist in his Sungai Buloh prison cell on Tuesday evening. He was rushed to the Sungai Buloh Hospital by the prison authorities.

A prison officer had spotted Raja Azman lying on the floor in a listless condition, said Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rahim Abdullah. Raja Azman is reported to be in stable condition.

Meanwhile, in an article yesterday, Raja Petra wrote in Malaysia Today claiming that Raja Azman had resorted to such drastic action because his son could not take the physical and mental torture by the prison authorities.

When asked, ACP Rahim declined to comment on the allegation.

“We are investigating the case thoroughly. Give us some time as it is still in the early stages,” he said when contacted.

Raja Azman, the second child of Raja Petra, had in May last year pleaded guilty at the Kuala Lumpur magistrate’s court to four separate counts of theft, receiving stolen property and criminal trespass.

The stolen items included mobile phones, watch and several motorcycles.

However, he changed his plea to not guilty in June last year.
