Anuar, Ezam said to have lied to get Soros money

(Free Malaysia Today) – Pakatan Rakyat detractors Anuar Shaari and Ezam Mohd Noor have been accused of  soliciting money under false pretences from a pro-democracy philantropist.

The two were in a group of four people who went to the United States in “2003 or thereabouts,” misrepresented themselves as being affiliated to the Free Anwar Campaign (FAC) and solicited funds from George Soros, according to Raja Petra Kamarudin, who worked on FAC alone and is now a fugitive writing for the Malaysia Today website.

In an article entitled “Anuar Shaari and George Soros,” Raja Petra said the money was supposed to be used to help the opposition in the 2004 election, but did not arrive in time.

“The tens of millions in election funds,” he said, were sent to Hong Kong.

“The March 2004 general election came before the money could be diverted from Hong Kong to Malaysia. And we never heard of the money again.

Soon after that Ezam and his gang, which included Anuar Shaari, left the opposition and joined Umno. Some left just before the 2004 general election.”

Although the article has been on the web for nearly a week and has been reproduced on several sites, there has been no reaction from either Anuar or Ezam.
