Putrajaya blitzkrieg – acid test for Anwar & Co

In the past, the charismatic opposition leader’s presence would draw thousands, but now with the imbroglio in PKR and intimate details having surfaced with regard to his trial, observers are waiting to see if the numbers would dwindle.

SEREMBAN: Following a spate of high-profile resignations and its supremo battling a sodomy charge, PKR is being touted as a party in crisis with detractors claiming that it could only be downhill from here.

Under this dark cloud, the party’s general Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim would be launching, what some might describe as an ambitious campaign, the “blitzkrieg (lightning war) to Putrajaya”.

The Semboyan Halilintar ke Putrajaya would be launched together with other Pakatan Rakyat leaders in Seremban 2, tomorrow.

The campaign is aimed at capturing support ahead of the next general election, which Pakatan leaders believe could be held before June 2011, when the Goods and Services Tax is expected to come into effect.

Anwar would be joined by DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang and PAS secretary-general Mustafa Ali.

The organisers are expecting a massive turnout, and tomorrow’s event would serve as a litmus test for both Anwar and the fledgling opposition coalition.
