Bumiputeras still behind, says Ibrahim Ali

(Bernama) – Bumiputeras are still lagging behind non-Bumiputeras and foreigners, the Dewan Rakyat was told yesterday.

Datuk Ibrahim Ali (Independent-Pasir Mas) said this could be attested to from the socio-economic indicators such as household income and hardcore poor statistics, and the breakdown in the number of professionals.

“From whatever perspective, the National Development Policy (NDP) had yet to succeed in bridging the economic disparity between Bumiputeras and non-Bumiputeras.

“As such, I hope non-Bumiputeras should appreciate the fact and refrain from harping on that the government is oppressing non-Bumiputeras locally and abroad,” he said when debating the royal address.

Ibrahim the Malay NGO Consultative Council would propose to the government to incorporate the Malay agenda in the new economic model.

“I fully support the new economic model as it emphasises on innovation, creativity and add high value in the march towards achieving a high-income economy.

“I hope the new economic model will not fail Bumiputeras like the New Economic Policy and the NDP,” he added.

The sitting continues today.
