Hulu Selangor polls on April 25
The Election Commission today fixed April 25 (Sunday) for the Hulu Selangor parliamentary seat by-election. Nominations will be held on April 17 (Saturday), giving the parties a seven-day campaigning period.
The by-election is being called following the death of PKR’s Zainal Abidin Ahmad last Thursday.
EC chairman Abdul Aziz Yusof, who announced the dates today at the EC office this morning, said the master electoral roll for 2009 which was updated until March 26, would be used as the voter-registration list for the by-election.
“The EC was informed officially by the Dewan Rakyat Speaker on March 29, that the seat has been declared vacant after the death of incumbent on March 25.
“After studying the notice and the death certificate, EC declared P.094 seat vacant, effective March 26,” he said.
Under the Federal Constitution 54(1), a vacancy shall be filled within 60 days from the date on which it shall be established by the EC that there was a vacancy.
