PKR will back DAP in Bandar Sibu polls

PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has given an assurance that her party would support DAP if a candidate from the party was chosen to represent Pakatan Rakyat in the coming Bandar Sibu by-election.

However she did not rule out the possibility of PKR also vying for the seat.

“Until now we do not know who will be the candidate. He can be from PKR or DAP but whoever is chosen, PKR will give full support,” she said.

“If a PKR candidate is nominated, I hope DAP will give us similar support. We have strong ground support to win the by-election,” she added.

The by-election is to fill the vacancy from the death of Robert Lau on Friday after a short illness. Lau, a five-term MP since 1990, was also the deputy minister of transport.

The election commission is expected to announce the nomination and polling dates this week.

Wan Azizah, on a previously-scheduled three-day visit to Sarawak, also expressed her condolences to Lau’s family.
