Najib confirms turned off fuel supplies to Iran

(The Malaysian Insider) – Malaysia has officially ceased fuel supplies to Iran, on the back of looming US sanctions on the Islamic republic over its continued pursuit of a nuclear development programme, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced yesterday.

“It’s going to be quite inevitable that additional sanctions will be imposed in the near future unless there is some movement in the right direction by Iran,” Najib was quoted in an AFP report today.

This comes after confirmation yesterday from state oil firm, Petronas, that it had stopped the sale of gasoline to Iran since the middle of March.

According to Najib, the decision was reached after discussions between his administration and the state-owned Petronas.

Najib had also met US President Barack Obama on the sidelines of the recent Nuclear Security Summit in Washington, where the prime minister expressed support for Obama over the need send a strong message to the Iran.
