BN gets high on ‘alcoholic’ Zaid

KUALA KUBU BARU: Barisan Nasional has shifted into overdrive with its character assassination of PKR candidate Zaid Ibrahim for being an “alcoholic”.

The former law minister’s fondness for the bottle became the main theme of a three-hour BN Youth ceramah here last night, which also saw the presence of PKR’s former Penang deputy chief minister Mohamad Fairus Khairuddin.

“Zaid is a corrupt Malay. He even admitted that he drank (alcohol). We know a lot about him, both in and out,” said Fairus, drawing applause from the crowd, which numbered around 300.

He also lambasted the Kelantan-born former Umno leader and Kota Baru MP as an “outsider” who had no right to contest in Selangor.

“He was not even with PKR from the start. He was not part of the ‘reformasi’ struggle. He just joined the party and now he wants to contest here even when the people of Kota Baru rejected him,” he said.

Fairus, who made his debut as an Umno member after leaving PKR following a fallout with the  party leadership last February, also trained his guns on his former boss Anwar Ibrahim.

“Who is he (Anwar)? Is he that great? When the second sodomy allegation hit him, he tried to start the second ‘reformasi’ wave but it failed. He went to get foreign support instead,” he said.
