Maika deal a polls gimmick, say shareholders

KUALA KUBU BARU: Maika Holdings shareholders are demanding to know the details of a purported offer by a company to buy their investments for RM106 million.

According to shareholder S Nadarajah, the announcement, which was first reported by Bernama quoting sources, sounded like a “political gimmick” in time for the Hulu Selangor by-election.

After the news broke out, MIC president S Samy Vellu had immediately thanked Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak and the government for coming to the rescue of the Indian community.

“It’s a political gimmick because 1,500 Maika shareholders are from Hulu Selangor. They will be casting their votes on April 25,” Nadarajah told a press conference here.

He added that the shareholders demand to know the details of the sale.

“We want to know if the offer is real. Does it benefit the shareholders? Or is it just another gimmick? We want an honest announcement from the groups involved in the purchase,” he said.
