Muhyiddin defends Kamalanathan’s kiss

KUALA KUBU BHARU, April 22 — Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said today that Barisan Nasional’s (BN) candidate for the Hulu Selangor by-election, P. Kamalanathan, was only showing respect and humility when he kissed the deputy prime minister’s hand recently.
He also laughed off the opposition’s accusations that the act showed Kamalanathan was an “Umno stooge”.
The DPM said Kamalananthan’s move demonstrated his respect for elders and that the attempt to exploit the issue by Pakatan Rakyat (PR) reflected the pact’s “desperation” to win the crucial Hulu Selangor by-election.
“To me he is a candidate that is humble, grounded and recognises the culture (of the Malays).
“I did not ask him to kiss my hand but he did it because he understands… not just with me but to other elderly people as well,” Muhyiddin told a press conference here.
