PKR losing ground under BN final assault

Then came Najib. The mood changed perceptibly and soon a sea of BN flags, banners and posters of Kamalanathan were fluttering along the road from Serendah to Kuala Kubu Baru, the counting centre for tomorrow’s election.

KUALA KUBU BARU: The Barisan Nasional (BN), which is trailing PKR for the Hulu Selangor parliamentary seat, suddenly launched a final assault that saw its opponents reeling under the blow.

Leading the team is BN chairman and Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak, who swept through impenetrable areas such as Felda Sungai Buaya, Ulu Yam Baru, Kampung Assam Kumbang, Kampung Baru Rasa and Kalumpang as the race entered its final lap.

Najib attracted immediate attention with his typical Malay style: smiling, shaking hands and patting the backs of the residents with his 1Malaysia touch. He received roars of approval when he promised to look into the problems of the voters.

When former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad dropped by two nights ago, about 2,000 people were all ears as the pugnacious doctor threw punches at PKR supremo Anwar Ibrahim and candidate Zaid Ibrahim.

The final assault seems to have changed the equation, with even bookies now favouring BN, instead of PKR.

Hours before Najib began his attack, BN was seen fighting an uphill battle in many areas where there were hardly any BN flags and banners.

BN operation centres in these areas were nearly deserted, with only a few campaigners mingling among themselves as they could not penetrate these “hostile” sites.
