Voting brisk, more than 60% cast their ballots

(Free Malaysia Today) – UPDATED 2.50pm More than 60 percent of Hulu Selangor voters have cast their ballots, with the Election Commission (EC) reporting that voting was brisk at all the 48 polling stations.

Earlier EC’s Wan Ahmad Wan Omar described the voting process as good.

“Some have reached over 50 percent… this is good. Normally the percentage in the first three hours in any by-election is about 40 percent,” said Wan Ahmad.

As of 2pm, the EC said the voter turnout is 63.74 percent with 41,112 having cast their ballots.

Wan Ahmad also said claims that there would be problems in the polling station following the relocation fo 14,000 voters were also unfounded, because no one had gone to the wrong centre so far.

Earlier this morning, an EC spokesman said many voters turned out early due to the fine weather.

A total of 799 postal voters cast their votes on Thursday and Friday.

Polling is taking place in 47 schools and a community hall. Polling closes at 5pm and results are expected at around 9.30pm.

The constituents are voting to choose between Barisan Nasional’s P Kamalanathan, 44, and PKR’s Zaid Ibrahim, 56.
