Palace crisis worsens as police question Kelantan prince

(The Malaysian Insider) – The Kelantan palace crisis worsened tonight (4 May) when police detained Tengku Muhammad Fakhry, hours after he spoke out about the failure to send the state Ruler to Singapore for a medical check-up.

The Sultan of Kelantan is now warded in the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Hospital in Kubang Kerian, near here, two months after the Ruler returned from a nine-month stay at the Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore.

The Malaysian Insider understands that police have detained two doctors and five palace guards.

It is unclear why they were detained.

Last week, a palace guard was shot while on his way home from work.

The guard is still being treated in hospital.

Istana Kelantan palace guards are now stationed at the USM Hospital grounds but declined comment.

It is understood the Ruler arrived at the hospital at 7.30pm, 10 minutes after Tengku Muhammad Fakhry was brought to the state police headquarters.

The Malaysian Insider understands that the Tengku Temenggong Kelantan is being questioned about his statement to the media earlier in the day.
