KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Rakyat is confident it can win over the youths in Sibu come May 16. One of its partners, PKR, feels the mood is swinging towards the opposition coalition among the young people.

Its Youth wing, Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK), said this affirmative mood was fuelling the confidence level of Pakatan.

“We are comfortable with the affirmative support we are getting from the youths,” AMK chief Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin told FMT.

He said support among youths for Pakatan has been rising steadily not only in the peninsula but also in Sarawak.

“Even in a rural seat like Batang Ai, we received strong support from the native youths there. We even appointed some of them to become our polling agents there.”

“We believe the youths will back the opposition as Sibu is an urban seat and they have been exposed to the new media.

“They are ready to show their strength in Sibu,” Shamsul said, adding that AMK had dispatched 50 full-time workers from the Peninsula to help the DAP.

DAP is fielding Wong Ho Leng, while the Sarawak United People’s Party has named Robert Lau Hui Yew. An independent candidate, Nawawi Haron, 60, has also entered the fray.
