Wee quits PKR, becomes independent

(Free Malaysia Today) – PKR’s Wangsa Maju member of parliament Wee Choo Keong announced his decision to quit the party today. He will become an independent MP.

He told a press conference here that he was disappointed with the little Napoleans in the party, especially when no one in the party had come to publicly comment on the controversy surrounding sand mining scandal involving Selangor state agency Kuala Semesta Sdn Bhd (KSSB).

He said the decision of the state leadership to refer the matter to the Selangor Select Committee on Competency, Accountability and Transparency (Selcat) was just a political ploy “by the little Napoleons within the party”.

He said this was done to intimidate Kapar MP S Manikavasagam who had exposed the scandal.

“This is the last straw that broke the camel’s back as far as I am concerned. I am making this statement with a very heavy heart. I have considered all of these things for a very long, long time. I have seen enough and experienced enough,” he said.

“I saw all these things with my own eyes. I saw it when I was with them and I can no longer remain in the PKR and to be in this type of so-called Pakatan. I take this opportunity to announce my resignation from PKR and all posts in the party. I will remain as an independent,” he told reporters at a press conference in his office here.

Wee declined to say if anymore PKR MPs would jump ship but added that many were unhappy with the leadership.

“I do know that many are extremely unhappy with the way things are happening in the party. Sweet talk, double talk, whatever… ”

Wee becomes the latest PKR member to defect from the party although it has been speculated for months that he will be leaving.
