Selangor to table FOI Act in August

SUBANG JAYA – Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim today expressed his intention to table a Freedom of Information Act at the next state assembly sitting in August.
Speaking at the Bloggers United Malaysia 2010 gathering today, Khalid said it is very important for the government to create an environment which is open and transparent.
“We are trying to ensure that all exco members report documents and declarations of state executive assets when they hold office in Selangor with the implementation of this Act.
“Even though the federal government opposes this Act, we intend to enact it as we believe it is in our interest to ensure that the public is well informed to make matured decisions on issues.” He added.
Khalid however expects opposition from the federal government regarding this decision but is prepared to head to court to implement the Act in the state.
