MIC’s quit threat unwarranted, says Khairy
Umno Youth Chief Khairy Jamaluddin today described threats by MIC to leave Barisan Nasional (BN) as uncalled for, saying the party should instead strengthen the ruling coalition instead of pointing fingers.
MIC leaders have racheted tension with the dominant Malay party after a sacked party leader started the anti-Samy Vellu movement (GAS) which which will be officially launched this Sunday at Umno’s PWTC headquarters.
“Umno Youth is seriously looking into the statement by MIC Youth Chief T. Mohan that MIC will not hesitate to review its position in Barisan Nasional if Umno is involved in the formation of Anti-Samy Vellu movement (GAS),” Khairy said in a statement.
The Rembau MP said that Mohan should stop making “wild” and baseless accusations.
“As Umno Youth Chief and Chairman of Barisan Nasional Youth, I have contacted T. Mohan and told MIC to stop making wild accusations that Umno is the mastermind behind the movement to overthrow the MIC president.
“I have also emphasized to T. Mohan that his threat to leave Barisan Nasional is not fair and unnecessary. The component parties should instead strengthen its relationship to face the 13th general election,” he added.
