KUCHING: Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SDPD) held its supreme council meeting yesterday minus the eight “rebels” who walked out from a similar meeting last February due to major disagreements with the party leadership.

Their absence seems to confirm that the relationships between the party leadership and the five recalcitrant elected representatives and three members of the supreme council have not returned to normalcy.

The five are state assemblymen Biru Peter Nansian (Tasik Baru), Sylvester Enteri (Marudi), Paulus Gumbang (Batu Danau), Yunus Mas Gadding (Berkenu Rosey) and member of parliament Tiki Lafe.

The three Supreme council members are George Garai, Peter Gani and Egar Ida.

All five walked out from a meeting last February in protest against party president, William Mawan Ikom’s decision to appoint Nelson Balang Rining as secretary general instead of retaining Enteri as promised earlier.

They accused him of not honouring his word of maintaining status quo in the party after its election last December.
