Crooked bridge not on agenda

(The Straits Times) – THE controversial crooked bridge project to replace the Causeway was not discussed when the prime ministers of Singapore and Malaysia met last week, says Malaysia’s Foreign Minister.

‘No, the crooked bridge issue was never discussed,’ Datuk Anifah Aman was quoted as saying by the Malaysian Insider news website yesterday.

The proposal to build an S-shaped half bridge, widely dubbed the ‘crooked bridge’, was mooted by former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad and later scrapped by his successor Abdullah Badawi.

Tun Dr Mahathir reiterated his support for the project last Saturday, as he had done on several occasions before.

At a meeting in Singapore last week, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his Malaysian counterpart Najib Razak agreed on a deal to move the KTM railway station in Tanjong Pagar to Woodlands by July next year.

When asked what other issues were raised at the meeting, Mr Anifah said: ‘All that was discussed was the water plant in Johor.’
