Sultan Azlan: People have the right to voice concern over rising crime
(Malaysian Digest) – The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Azlan Shah said yesterday the people have the right to express their concern over the rising incidence of crime and the brutal manner they were committed.
However, he said society must also realise that the police were not the cause of the crime.
“There are many reasons for the incidence of crime and many parties are also responsible for the crime. The socio-political situation, economic slowdown, unemployment, the lack of social infrastructure and various other factors can lead to the increasing crime rate,” the Sultan said when officially opening the Perak Tengah District Police Headquarters Complex, here.
He said services provided by the police would be more effective if society gave their encouragement, showed sympathy, and adopted a fair and balanced attitude.
Sultan Azlan Shah said the police had a heavy responsibility to shoulder and in view of the large number of personnel involved, there would surely be some inadequacies involving a small section of the force.
He also said a collective effort was needed to eradicate crime and thus the efforts must be carried out in an integrated manner between the various institutions such as the family, schools, society and the religion.
