The May 13 Tragedy: a report by the NOC (part 1)

Many Malaysia Today readers were born after Merdeka, and many even after the infamous ‘May 13 Tragedy’. What they know about ‘May 13’ may be what they heard, and mostly in whispers by those old folks who were already around then but dare not speak for fear of detention under the Internal Security Act. Today, we are starting a new series, revealing what the National Operations Council or NOC reported on 9th October 1969. Let us see whether what was officially reported is the same as eye-witness accounts and stories from those like me who were there when it happened.
