Anwar questions if Najib can pull off 10MP
(TMI) KUALA KRAI, June 11 — Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last night asked if his political foe can implement the “grand ideas” of the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP), and said he will speak on this in Parliament next Monday.
The Pakatan Rakyat (PR) de facto leader revealed this during a rally here, in a bid to sway public opinion about the “evils and inconsistencies” of Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
“On this coming Monday, I myself will speak up on the 10th Malaysia Plan… Malaysia faces a serious problem where there is a problem with the implementation of laws.
“You may have grand ideas, but whether you can implement it, it’s another thing,” said Anwar to a crowd of 300-odd people, mostly Pakatan Rakyat (PR) supporters.
The Permatang Pauh MP, who was flanked by other PKR and PAS speakers such as PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution as well as PAS’ Kuala Krai MP Dr Hatta Ramli, claimed that Malaysia’s development woes were caused by the mismanagement of funds by a “corrupt ruling government.”
“Malaysia is in trouble and in need of contingency plans not because we are bankrupt. It is because of the corrupt practices of Umno-BN in every level of governance.
“Every project that gets approved, everything that gets a green light, a commission is given, [which] goes to cronies’ pockets. And that is the rakyat’s money, mind you, feeding the greed of Umno cronies,” said Anwar.
Najib had yesterday revealed the blueprint for the government’s direction for the next five years to an almost immediate objection from PR’s DAP.
DAP has claimed that the 10MP went against the spirit of Najib’s New Economic Model (NEM), aimed at ridding the country of rent-seeking an patronage as well as giving equal opportunity to everyone.
The 62-year old former Umno politician went all out in his standard tirade against the Najib administration, and left no stone unturned as he sought to defend his position on being referred to the Parliamentary Rights and Privileges Committee.
“I don’t know how long I am going to be a member of Parliament, to tell you the truth. What I did was show proof that APCO (Worldwide), a consultancy firm hired by Malaysia, has direct links with Israel… its staff were former top military officials within the Israeli security forces.
“The agreements that have been made between APCO-Israel, Malaysia-APCO, I have brought to Parliament… I even have proof that two Israeli officers have been secretly working in the Royal Malaysian police force.
“And for all this they want to kick me out? I would not say it if I did not have any proof… it’s fine. Let [them] kick me out. I’ll spend my time going all over the country warning people about this,” said the PKR man to a rapturous applause from the crowd.
Anwar faces possible suspension over remarks made during the last Parliamentary session when he accused the government of having links with top Israeli officers.
He also claimed that while Najib had “appeared” to issue a strong condemnation on Israel’s attack on pro-Palestinian aid ships last Monday in Parliament, the fact that “Israeli flags were up in the air at the Klang port” suggested otherwise.
Local newspapers had on Wednesday reported that Israeli ships had been steadily docking and entering Malaysian waters for well over ten years, and that Najib’s resolution against Israel has not changed that.
“How can Umno let Israel ships come in the country?” said Anwar.
