Perkasa fingered over alleged assault of MPS councillor

(The Star) – The alleged assault of Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) councillor Lim Ching How and his assistant Zuhudi Ahmad on Wednesday by about 20 individuals wearing T-shirts bearing the Perkasa logo is unacceptable, appalling and must be condemned, MCA central committee member Loh Seng Kok said.

He expressed regret over the incident, saying the racist espousals by Perkasa might have inadvertently contributed to the alleged beatings.

In a statement yesterday, he said MCA urged the police to view the case seriously and conduct a thorough investigation.

“Charges must be brought against the individuals involved in the alleged battery,” said Loh, who is also MCA publicity bureau chairman.

Lim had gone to Taman Industry Bolton, Batu Caves, at 11am on Wednesday after receiving complaints that a signboard put up by the Yee Lan Sheng Hui Association was being torn down by a mob.

Loh said the MCA was astounded there were only two policemen at the scene.

“If the two felt outnumbered, they could have called for backup to defuse the situation,” he added.

“Malaysia is a country governed by the rule by law, not a country destined by mob rule and physical intimidation.

“Whatever opposing views individuals or NGOs may have should be solved through dialogue and consultation,” Loh said.

On a separate issue, Loh said MCA was disappointed with the behaviour displayed by some Members of Parliament at the Senate Lounge recently.

“Any differences of opinions should be raised during the Parliament debate, and not outside the chamber.

“MPs should not launch into tirades at civilians or disrupt discussions of MPs with their guests.”

Similarly, Loh said while MPs have the right to listen to the grievances of the public, they should also be able to control their guests and prevent them from raising their voices at other MPs.
