KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) will initiate legal action against PKR-owned weekly Suara Keadilan and several top party leaders over an article alleging that the conglomerate was bankrupt.

Announcing its intentions today Deputy Minister in Prime Minister’s Department Ahmad Maslan said several PKR leaders would be named as plaintiffs.

Among them include party leader Anwar Ibrahim, supreme council member Zaid Ibrahim, deputy international liaison chief Tan Kee Kwong and Pahang PKR Orang Asal and Felda bureau chief Suhaimi Saad. They have all be highly critical of Felda’s performance in the recent weeks.

Also named were Kuala Terengganu MP Abdul Wahid Endut and the owners, author and chief editor of the weekly.

Felda’s case against Suara Keadilan is over an article titled ”Felda Bangkrap” which was published in the weekly dated June 22-29, 2010. The article claimed that Felda’s cash reserves had dwindled by almost RM3 billion.

Denying the content of report, Ahmad said Felda’s asset was currently worth RM12.2 billion.

“The allegations are baseless. Although Felda’s cash had dropped to less than RM2.73 billion, its assets have spiralled to RM15.37 billion in 2009,” he said.

Ahmad said in 2004 Felda recorded a cash reserve of RM4.08 billion but this figure dropped to RM1.35 billion in 2009.
