MACC to record PI’s statement next month
(The Star) – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has fixed July 5 to July 7 to record P. Balasubramaniam’s statement in London.
Balasubramaniam, who is popularly known as PI Bala, would be giving his statement on a case involving murdered Mongolian woman Altantuya Shaariibuu.
MACC investigations director Mustafar Ali said Bala’s statement would be recorded at a hotel in London.
“We have requested that he bring all the relevant documents,” Mustafar said yesterday.
Mustafar said three officers from the MACC investigations department would go to London to record Bala’s statements.
Lawyers Manjeet Singh Dhillon and Americk Sidhu had said in previous news report that their client Bala was ready and willing to have his statement recorded.
MACC would also allow the lawyers to be present when Bala has his statement recorded.
On July 3, 2008, Bala made a statutory declaration relating to the murder of Altantuya but withdrew it the next day through a second sworn declaration.
The MACC has so far recorded statements from the Prime Minister’s brother Datuk Mohamad Nazim Razak and businessman Deepak Jaikishan, both of whom were mentioned in Bala’s first statutory declaration.
