Perkasa wants MCA’s Wee under ISA, warns of ‘May 13’

Right-wing Malay group Perkasa’s newspaper will make a fiery debut tomorrow with headlines screaming “Arrest Ka Siong under ISA”, referring to Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong.

Perkasa chief Datuk Ibrahim Ali had recently called Wee “biadap” (rude) and accused him of questioning the social contract, which led to a verbal spat between the two men.

Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin also joined in the fray by calling Ibrahim a “gedebe politik,” or political gangster, resulting in the Perkasa chief demanding his resignation as Rembau MP for  defending Wee.

“Perkasa urges the Government to arrest Wee Ka Siong under the ISA (Internal Security Act),” said Perkasa deputy president Datuk Abdul Rahman Abu Bakar in the front-page article of Suara Perkasa shown to reporters today.

“Wee Ka Siong cannot say that Mara (scholarships) have to be reduced…he is against the Constitution,” said Perkasa vice-president Dr Zubir Harun today.

Wee reportedly asked recently if the Mara scholarship programme for Bumiputera students would be scrapped together with the Public Service Department (PSD) scholarships.

“If the government is only doing away with the PSD scholarships but retain the Mara scholarships, this will not be in line with the 1 Malaysia concept that the government is promoting,” he was quoted as saying.

Wee made the statement in response to the government’s decision to scrap the 1,500 PSD scholarships.

The deputy education minister had dismissed accusations that he was questioning the special position of the Malays.

“The scholarship issue is closely related to Malay and Bumiputera special rights,” said Abdul Rahman in the article.

“Therefore, it touches on Article 153 of the Malaysian Constitution, where the Yang di-Pertuan Agong is responsible for upholding the special rights of Malays and Bumiputeras, including scholarship allocations,” he continued.

Wee must be placed under the ISA in order to prevent social unrest like the May 13 racial riots, said Zubir.
