Probe who PI Bala’s sponsor is, MACC urged
(Bernama) – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has been urged to investigate the individual involved in sponsoring private investigator P. Balasubramaniam in London.
Independent MP for Bayan Baru Datuk Zahrain Mohamed Hashim, in making the call, said he was convinced that an individual was sponsoring Balasubramaniam’s stay in the United Kingdom because he knew that the private investigator could not afford to stay there without financial assistance.
“I urge the MACC to investigate who is the sponsor. Furthermore, I know it’s not possible that Bala can afford to stay in London for months without a sponsor,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby here Wednesday.
Balasubramaniam, also known as PI Bala, created a controversy when, on July 3, 2008, he made a statutory declaration relating to the murder of Altantuya.
However, the following day, he withdrew his earlier sworn affidavit through a second sworn affidavit at a media conference, before disappearing with his family.
