Pakatan accuses Speaker of double standards

KUALA LUMPUR, July 1 — The question of double of standards was raised in Parliament today when the Dewan Rakyat Speaker refused to refer Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Ng Yen Yen for allegedly misleading the House.

Instead, Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia said he wanted to give an opportunity to Ng to explain her ministry’s flip-flop on the cost of the Malaysian pavilion at the Shangai World Expo in China.

In a written answer on June 15, Ng has said the price tag of the pavilion was RM35 million but yesterday, her deputy, James Dawos Mamit, said it was RM20 million.

Pakatan Rakyat MPs were up in arms over why the same courtesy was not extended to Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who was immediately revered to the privileges committee for claiming that APCO Worldwide was behind the 1 Malaysia concept.

Today, Seputeh MP Teresa Kok wanted Ng to be immediately referred to the committee but Pandikar said he needed to determine if there was prima facie case first.
