MACC submits questions for PI Bala through lawyer
(The Star) – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has submitted questions to P. Balasubramaniam through his lawyer, to be answered by the private investigator.
MACC director of investigation, Mustafar Ali said the MACC had sent the questions to his lawyer, Americk Sidhu, through a courier on Friday afternoon.
He said Americk had agreed to send the answers to the MACC as soon as possible.
“We have contacted Bala’s lawyer, Americk and suggested that we submit the questions to Bala in the form of a sworn statement or affidavit.
“Balasubramaniam’s lawyer, via an e-mail, yesterday (Thursday) agreed to submit the questions to him (Balasubramaniam) and also agreed that the questions be sent through a courier,” he told Bernama, here on Friday.
The MACC had earlier decided not to send its officers to London to take statements from Balasubramaniam on the murder of Mongolian woman, Altantuya Shaariibuu.
MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations) Datuk Mohd Shukri Abdull said, on the other hand, Balasubramaniam would be asked to answer questions that would be submitted through his lawyer in the form of a sworn statement or affidavit.
On Thursday, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s former private secretary, Anuar Shaari supported the call by Bayan Baru MP Datuk Seri Zahrain Mohamed Hashim, that the MACC investigate immediately who was sponsoring Balasundram’s stay in London.
