Police: Anti-ISA candle light vigil illegal

PETALING JAYA: Organisers of the Gerakan Mansuhkan ISA (GMI) have been warned not to proceed with a candle light vigil in several locations in the country tonight.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar said the vigil is scheduled to be held concurrently at several locations in Selangor, Perak, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan, Negri Sembilan and Sarawak at 8pm.
“The police have yet to receive any application for a gathering from the organisers, which makes it illegal if they proceed with their plans,” he said in a statement. Ismail urged the public to not attend the vigil or they could face stern action.
