The PKR Drama Continues

Is Zaid such a real threat?

By Masterwordsmith

On September 8th, I wrote a post called PKR – Self-Destructive Mode? which generated some interest because of the contents therein. Today, I wish to reiterate what I said in that post – that recent developments show that it IS in a self-destructive and self-mutilating mode and for what reason?

I. The Chronicles of Zaid vs Azmin

The Malaysian Insider revealed HERE today that Datuk Zaid Ibrahim’s detractors have set up a blog called Selamatkan Keadilan aimed at attacking the former Umno man as an “outsider” bent to destroy PKR.

The report said that the blog was born out of the intention to save PKR from being destroyed by a person sponsored by greedy and voracious businessmen. It will publish exposes after exposes over who this person is. At the point of blogging, five entries can be read there. The url of the blog reveals its main agenda – antizaid.wordpress.com

I cannot understand why some would be worried enough about Zaid to set up such a blog since Azmin is (at the point of blogging) leading with 39 nominations while Zaid only has about half his count at 19.

Is Zaid such a real threat?

What other recent developments reveal the messy state of affairs in PKR?

II. The Big Ambition of a President Wannabe?

Earlier, Zaid had warned its members HERE that the party risks turning into another Umno unless there is a leadership change.

Interestingly, Zaid himself said, “If I win, I will defend the president’s power. Too often do I hear that Wan Azizah is not the real leader. Some say she has no power. This happens because some party leaders don’t respect the position of party president. (Some of these) leaders are more comfortable giving their full trust in the de facto leader. I, too, trust and fully support Anwar, because he is the party founder and opposition leader. But in the party structure, he is just an ordinary member.”

That disclosure drew flak from communications director Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, who blasted him for indiscipline and disrespect towards Anwar and PKR as a whole. This is because if one examines Zaid’s statement closely, on one hand, he said he would be a loyal deputy to president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, but on the other hand, he also had no qualms about hitting out at Anwar.

What is most startling is that it is Nurul Izzah who gave her clearest indication yet that she is backing Zaid Ibrahim in his quest for the deputy president’s post in the forthcoming party polls over HERE.

To date, Wan Azizah has not made any public statement about this issue. Why?
