SUPP under fire for playing racial card

KUCHING – DAP MP for Kuching Chong Chieng Jen on Tuesday slammed SUPP for playing the racial card despite being in Barisan Nasional (BN) for over 40 years.
Chong said it was no surprise that SUPP chairman Wong Soon Koh had said that even if SUPP lost all seats in the coming state election, BN will still rule but without Chinese representative in the government.
Wong also had urged the Chinese to consider the serious consequences of voting out SUPP as they would not have their voice represented in the government.
Chong pointed out that Sarawak Chief Minister Taib Mahmud had recently lamented in public that he did not know what are the demands of the Chinese community.
Chong said the chief minister’s comment showed that SUPP had not been voicing out the Chinese’s rights in the government.
“Otherwise, why would Taib not know what the Chinese wants. It means SUPP has failed the Chinese all these years while they were with the government,” he said.
The government has realised that they have failed the Chinese since after the March 08 general election, and had tried to bring a change in policy for improvements like handling out allocation for the Chinese schools, Chong added .
He also claimed that there is no difference between SUPP and Umno in being racist, saying that the people do not want a government that is corrupted or has unfair policies which drive talented people out of the country.
“Through their policies, the country has been uncompetitive in economic terms with other countries,” he said.
He noted that being racist would affect not only a race but all Malaysians. Corruption and building of white elephant projects had caused the reduction of subsidy for essential items.
