MP Wee witnessed Rahimi sign SD, claims PKR man

Kedah PKR Youth Chief Saiful Izham Ramli said today that Wangsa Maju MP Wee Choo Keong had witnessed Rahimi Osman sign one of two contentious statutory declarations (SD) on June 29, 2008.

Saiful claimed that that the former PKR lawmaker acted as the commissioner of oaths when the SD was drafted.

“My statement to the police was that on June 28, 2008 in a room at Quality Hotel Shah Alam… I had taken statements from potential witnesses that were working and had worked at the office of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Around midnight, a man named Rahimi Osman came to the room and gave his statement.

“After the statement was taken, I prepared a draft of the statutory declaration based on the facts given by Rahimi Osman,” Saiful continued.

“After he repeatedly read and made corrections to the draft, he then willingly signed the statutory declaration at the same place in the early morning of June 29 2008 in front of Wangsa Maju Member of Parliament Wee Choo Keong, who is also a lawyer and a commissioner of oaths,” he told reporters outside the police’s Commercial Crimes Investigation Department headquarters here.

Rahimi had recently said he was forced to sign two statutory declarations implicating the prime minister and his wife in Anwar’s sodomy trial.

Earlier today, Saiful and PKR information chief Latheefa Koya were interrogated by the police for nearly one hour.

The two were being investigated under Section 119 of the Penal code for making a false statement, which carries a penalty of three years’ jail upon conviction.

Today, lawyers representing Latheefa and Saiful Izham also confirmed that a letter of demand has been sent to Rahimi.

“A letter of demand was sent on Friday. We gave him 24 hours to respond and we have not heard anything from him so we will pursue the necessary actions against him,” said N. Surendran.

According to the police report lodged by Rahimi, he had been made to sign the declarations under duress from Latheefa and Saiful at Quality Hotel back in June 2008.

“I was forced to sign two statutory declarations on June 2008 about Anwar and Saiful. The declaration was not true because I did not write it.

“I was forced to sign it because I feared for my safety… at that time there were hundreds of Anwar’s supporters and right-hand men around Quality Hotel,” said Rahimi.

The former aide also claimed that he was forced to stay at the hotel for several days after signing the SD.

The police report also stated that Rahimi had now made a new declaration.
