PETALING JAYA, Oct 14 — PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail confirmed today that Nurul Izzah Anwar has qualified to stand for the deputy presidency after the party’s political bureau accepted a late submission by the Semporna division.
On Tuesday, it was reported that the daughter of PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had failed to receive the necessary nominations in order to enter the contest for the second-highest post in the party.
PKR Election Committee member Wong Hoy Cheong had then said candidates must obtain at least two nominations but Nurul Izzah had obtained only one — from Keningau, Sabah at the close of nomination on Sunday.
Today, Saifuddin explained that the political bureau had decided to let in nominations from six divisions that were sent after last week’s closing date.
“During the political bureau’s meeting last night, we agreed to accept nominations from six divisions that had submitted their forms after October 10,” he told reporters during a press conference at party headquarters here.
Among the six divisions which were late with their submissions were Semporna, Setiawangsa and Titiwangsa.
