Budget 2011

Boring budget, no excitement, no indication on how all these will lead the country into high income nation. For me, it’s more towards a budget for Rakan-rakan and keluarga.

So yesterday Budget for 2011 has been announced by Malaysia Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib. Let’s go through the budget in brief and discuss how it would benefit the citizen of Malaysia, and how the budget would achieve Najib’s objective to build high income nation.

Please welcome another landmark 100-storey Warisan Merdeka skyscraper will be built in KL city center.

But what for? I thought they were saying the country could be going bankrupt due to the national debt and deficit which we have to deal with. Do we not have enough office? I know there are many office spaces in KL are still left vacant. If this is to boost tourism industry, perhaps someone from Minister of Tourism should tell us how. Most importantly, who is gonna fund this project? We do not need another iconic building after KLCC, I believe the sentiment from ground would agree with me, that money could be used in other area for education or medical purpose.

Mass Rapid Transit MRT project, this should be started long time ago, I don’t care if you want to award this to your crony but please make sure it would really provide good connectivity and integrated public transport system, as well as affordable, reasonable ticket fare. Our MACC will never be as successful as in emulating ICAC from Hong Kong, but maybe now we can try to learn and emulate their MTR system.

So again, abolish import duty on approximately 300 items to promote Malaysia as Asia’s shopping haven, please, we have heard this many times, don’t you understand Malaysia can’t really compete with other country to become a shopping heaven. You should instead focus on other area to boost tourism industry, or allocate some budget to repair the public toilet in Bukit Bintang first.

remember this?

Well, it sounds very good for first time house buyer to enjoy 100% loan under My First House Scheme for the houses below RM220k, and for buyer who only brings back home less than RM3000 every month.
You better pray that the location of these houses will not be too far away or outskirt from urban area.  I am not really sure if this initiative will only speed up the bursting of the housing bubble, we will see. However good news is house buyer will enjoy 50% on stamp duty for house below RM350k.

Civil servant are the most happiest people every year around this time, 90 days maternity leave for female employee, in my opinion this should be extended to private sector as well.
And government servant are now eligible to get higher housing loan up to RM450k. I hope with all these goodies from Malaysia government will spur their performance and efficiency, I won’t object if they are offered with better pay and benefits, as long as they are ‘Rakyat centric’ and serve us nicely, treating everyone fairly, after all their job is to serve Rakyat just like the occupation title ‘Civil Servant’ suggests.
