Call For Umno To Review BN Seat Allocation
(Bernama) — Negeri Sembilan Umno has called on the party to review the seat quota allocation among Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties to ensure the coalition’s victory in the next general election.
Its representative, Datuk Jalaluddin Alias said if Malay candidates were popular in constituencies previously allocated to the other parties, they should be fielded by Umno to ensure the BN’s victory.
“As trade-off, members of BN component parties could be appointed as ministers or deputy ministers by making them senators,” he said when debating the presidential address at the 2010 Umno General Assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) here Friday.
Several Umno leaders, including Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein and Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin had said that the BN should no longer field candidates merely to fulfil the quota without considering the people’s acceptance.
Jalaluddin, who is also Jelebu Umno division deputy chief, also outlined six ways to restore the people’s confidence in Umno, including leaders and members must be upright and service oriented while the party should set up a political research unit.
