Overseas Umno clubs to be absorbed into Umno Youth

(Bernama) — Members of Umno Clubs abroad will soon become part of Umno Youth, once the Umno Supreme Council (MT) accepted a proposal made by Umno Youth Chief Khairy Jamaluddin.

Khairy said the proposal had received unanimous support from members and delegates of overseas Umno Clubs while the chairman of the Overseas Umno Clubs, Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek was also notified.

“I have to inform the MT of the proposal so that Umno Club members will become more actively involved in Umno Youth and I have assured them of my commitment,” he told reporters after a closed-door meeting with Overseas Umno Clubs here today.

Currently there are 71 such clubs in 16 countries.

Khairy said through the commitment of Umno leaders, Overseas Umno Clubs have recharged themselves with enthusiasm, especially those in Russia while the club in Pakistan which was closed due to non-activities, has been revived.

“Members of Overseas Umno Clubs are an asset to the party because they will be able to promote the party’s ideals overseas. We must also provide a platform for them to learn the trade of becoming future leaders.

“I am aware that Umno Youth leaders have an age limit and time will come for them to make way for others. So there is a need to groom young leaders who will be capable of taking over when the time comes,” he said.
