About Penang Forum

Penang Forum is an open forum for civil society organizations and individuals to discuss issues and formulate policies for the betterment of Penang.

Two public fora were held: the first on 13 April 2008 and the second on 7 March 2010.

At the first Forum, eleven working groups were established involving a wide cross-section of Penangites deliberating on the issues of health, environment, labour, women, persons with disabilities, local government, youth & students, transport, arts & culture, heritage, and goodwill initiatives. Each group completed a report containing positive recommendations which were then presented in two sittings to the Chief Minister and the State Executive Committee. This effort was done in the spirit of building a positive partnership between Penangites and their State and Municipal Governments. Such spirits has always been at the heart of Penang Forum activities.

The Second Forum passed two resolutions to urge the Penang State Government to revive local government elections as well as to disclose the Penang State Local Plan.

These fora were organised by the Penang Forum Steering Committee which is an open committee comprising of concerned individuals and representatives from various civil society organizations in Penang.

The various organisations that make up the Penang Forum and the members of the Steering Committee can be read at the Penang Forum website penangforum.net.
