‘Possible for Malaysian to win Nobel Prize in near future’

(Bernama) The Higher Education Ministry aspires to produce a Nobel Prize winner in the near future, the Dewan Rakyat was told Monday.

Its deputy minister Saifuddin Abdullah said this was possible if the ministry met its Key Perfomance Indicator (KPI) goals.

He said this when replying to a supplementary question from Nga Kor Meng (DAP-Taiping) who wanted to know if the ministry aimed to have a Malaysian winner of the Nobel Prize by 2020.

Earlier, to the original question from Liew Chin Tong (DAP-Bukit Bendera), Saifuddin had said that the QS World University Rankings systems could not be applied to Malaysian universities as it looked into overall achievement and not according to faculties.
