Police probe The Malaysian Insider’s terrorist group links
(The Malays Mail) – Police investigations into the sponsors of online news portal The Malaysian Insider began yesterday with the calling up of Jaringan Melayu Malaysia (JMM) president Azwanddin Hamzah whose non-governmental organisation lodged the first complaint.
Azwanddin gave his statement at the Pantai police station at 2pm yesterday and spent more than an hour there.
He told The Malay Mail he had provided police with the same documents he handed to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) last week.
“The 30-page document contained information pertaining to Bendera’s sponsorship of The Malaysian Insider and related articles which were slanderous and seditious and published.”
Bendera or Benteng Demokrasi Rakyat is a radical Indonesian group that fosters hatred against Malaysia.
Azwanddin said police were satisfied with his cooperation.
“I will give police more evidence when called again. I also believe the MCMC has cooperated with them following the reports I made against the news portal.”
JMM had claimed The Malaysian Insider had used money obtained by securing government contracts to slander the government, including the Prime Minister and his wife.
A spokesman for the MCMC told The Paper That Cares that their investigation department had called people relevant to the case to give their statements.
